Textile Art (also known as Texart) is an innovative recycling idea of the Garment & Footwear Association that was created to help reduce the amount of textile waste generated from garment factories in Nigeria that is causing environmental degradation due to unethical waste management practices by majority of factory owners

Every year, hundreds of thousand tons of textile waste materials is generated across Nigerian garment manufacturing companies which often goes into landfill or eliminated by burning. These practices are not healthy, and they are impacting on our environment in extremely negative ways.
As part of our initiatives to provide lasting solution to the problem posed on us by garment manufacturing activities in the country, we are introducing Texart to secondary schools across Nigeria starting from Aba in Abia State.
Aba is a commercial town in Nigeria popularly known for garment production business. The city has the largest concentration of garment factories in West Africa. And unfortunately Aba is also the most degraded when it comes to textile waste.
We have carried out a series of pilot testing among selected secondary school students between the ages of 13-19, and the result is mind blowing. We discovered many talents among the secondary school children who were able to produce beautiful art works with textile waste from garment factories.
We believe we will find many talents among these school children who already have interest or would develop one in Arts to look into Textile Waste as a source of raw materials for their creativity. We also have plans to reward as many talents as possible.
Textile Art Exhibition will be the foremost creative exercise in the secondary education sector that has a direct economic, environmental and social impact on students. By means of this project, so much will be achieved as shown below:
